S.P.K. - Dokument III0 1979

 Στο ακουσμα του ακρωνυμιου S.P.K., θα μνημονευουμε στους αιωνες των αιωνων το ζενιθ του Leichenschrei και αναγκαστικα τις ζειμπεκιες του Machine Age Voodoo, ομως τεινουμε να ξεχναμε πως στα τρια πρωτα ακριβοθωρητα εφταρια της, η μπαντα επαιξε ατοφιο ηλεκτρονικο μπαχαλοπανκ.
 Ετσι, το Dokument III0 1979 συλλεγει τα Factory, No More και Mecano για να μας θυμησει πως κατω απο τον βιομηχανικο εξωσκελετο τους, οι SPK εκρυβαν καλα μια pop ταση, την οποια θα τραβηξουν απ' τα μαλλια τα μεθεπομενα χρονια. Παντως παρα την ηλικια του, το Slogun εξακολουθει να ακουγεται διαλυμενο. Και πολυ εθιστικο.

Alberich - Quantized Angel

  90s Esplendor Geometrico + Imminent Starvation + γαβγισματα = δισκαρα

Alberich returns to the warzone after a 9 year hiatus with the already sold out Quantized Angel. This time he's way more rhythmically inclined, like a production from the Ant-Zen/Hands axis but with more grit and less sheen. Between the bangers, you will find some moodier, synth driven tracks, which preserve the cold war atmosphere intact, but I'll keep returning to the heavy stuff, especially when my coffee isn't enough.

 Industrial παλαιας κοπης απο Ιαπωνια μερια, με πληρη περιφρονηση προς τις τεχνολογικες εξελιξεις των τελευταιων 35 ετων. Για τον Masahiko Okubo, ο χρονος σταματησε επισημα τη μερα που ακουσε για πρωτη φορα SPK, γι' αυτο και το 33 Purgatories διαθετει τη στοφα ενος obscurity του τοτε. Ειδικα κατασκευασμενο για τους εκατομμυρια fans των White Hospital, του Grim και του κακου συναπαντηματος τους. 

 Masahiko Okubo was born 35 years too late, cause 33 Purgatories sounds exactly like the tape you would buy from a nasty xeroxed mailorder catalogue and then pray to Santa Postal Service for two months straight. Linekraft excels in the forgotten art of old school industrial, taking cues from Grim and Dissecting Table with a slight detour towards the rhythmic end of Greater Than One, on the almost danceable Mutant Embryo. Nowadays this sound is almost extinct, so 33 Purgatories is a thing to cherish.

Oil Thief - Colors Of Devotion

 O καταλογος της Total Black εχει μπερδεψει την βιοποικιλοτητα με τo συμφυρμο, καθως παραπαιει μεταξυ post-Prurient electronics, HNW και techno, με μοναδικη κατευθυντηρια γραμμη τη συγκεχυμενη αισθητικη πολλαπλων ανοιχτων tabs στο browser. Με τη σειρα τους, τα projects του roster αντανακλουν αυτη τη συμπεριφορα, οπως στην περιπτωση του Oil Thief που ενω με ειχε εντυπωσιασει με το ομολογουμενως καλο Obsolescence & Monality του '15, εδω μου τα κανει ψιλοσκατα. 

 Λεω "ψιλο" λογω του μεταβατικου χαρακτηρα των κασετων, που συνηθως σηματοδοτουν το περασμα απο τη μια επισημη κυκλοφορια στην επομενη, οποτε το Colors Of Devotion εχει το αλλοθι του format. Αυτο δεν σημαινει πως δεν εχει γινει sold out με το καλημερα, ουτε πως δεν θα αρεσει, ειδικα στους fans του Prurient επι Through The Window και Dial B For Beauty. Το μονο που λεει ειναι πως προφανως εχω γερασει και οταν ακουω κατι τετοιο, κανω Tron facepalm οπως μου υποδεικνυει το εξωφυλλο της κασετας.

Colors Of Devotion CS (Total Black - 2018)

John Duncan - Riot

 Με αφετηριακη επισημανση την σημαντικοτητα του Riot στην εξελιξη του αμερικανικου και ιαπωνικου noise καθως και την τιμη μιας original κοπιας, ηταν φυσικο και επομενο να ουρλιαζω κατω απο την πανσεληνο οταν ανακοινωθηκε η επανακυκλοφορια του. Καπου αναμεσα απο τα ψιλα γραμματα του δελτιου τυπου, αναφεροταν πως ο John Duncan επαναηχογραφησε τμηματα του δισκου επειδη δεν ηταν ικανοποιημενος με το αρχικο mix. Η αληθεια ειναι πως δεν καταλαβα καποια ουσιαστικη διαφορα απο το mp3 του soulseek, αλλα αυτο δεν μας ενδιαφερει. Εγω βρισκομαι εδω μονο για τη βαβουρα.
 Το ομοτιτλο κομματι καλυπτει ολοκληρη την επιφανεια της πρωτης πλευρας με στατικο θορυβο και βραχεα κυματα, που μαζι με το σκατιδι των ραδιοφωνικων εμπομπων και των σηματων μορς που πεταγονται απο το πουθενα, οδηγειται προς το παιξιμο μεχρι να σιχαθω την ωρα και τη στιγμη. Για τη δευτερη πλευρα δεν εχω να πω πολλα, δεν τα καταλαβαινω εγω αυτα. Εγω βρισκομαι εδω μονο για τη βαβουρα.

 Ideal Recordings provides us a huge public service by reissuing Riot, one of the very first examples of pure Noise assault. After his self-imposed exile on Japan back in 1984, John Duncan envisioned this record as an unbearable piece of music, a deliberate attack on the listener, but despite his effort to make something that ugly, Riot ironically became a key ingredient in the evolution of Japanoise as we know it. Behind the wall of static and shortwave randomness, you can trace a rich tapestry of metallic textures and a keen sense of physicality. The Black Sabbath sample is just a bonus.

Rotat - Grease District

 Ακομα ενα φινλανδικο μονομελες project που ακολουθει την αλανθαστη τακτικη του "βαραω μεχρι να με ακουσετε, αλλα αν δεν τα καταφερω, θα το κανω ακομα πιο δυνατα". Το harsh noise του Rotat εχει μια σχετικη hi-fi προσεγγιση στον ηχο, χωρις να θυσιαζει την αμεσοτητα του για χαρη της πιστοτητας, δηλαδη εξακολουθει να δαγκωνει κοκκαλα, αλλα ταυτοχρονα μπορεις να ξεχωρισεις ποιο απ' ολα.

 Απο τα εξι κομματια του Grease District, θα ξεχωρισω το Plastic Pubic Hairs, μια ηρωικα τιτλοφορημενη εντεκαλεπτη συνθεση που συμπυκνωνει αψογα την περιπτωση του ανωνυμου κυριου και το Last Breath, μια σπαστικα ασθμαινουσα καφριλα με κρατσανιστα επιπεδα και ακραιο panning. Live your myth in grease. 

 After a couple of tape releases on Obsessive Fundamental Realism and Hiisi Productions, this anonymous Finnish project makes its official debut on Freak Animal. Grease District has everything you need from your harsh noise, be it the crunchy low end, the balls out attack or the angular turns. The few industrial touches are more than welcome, like the tight last track with its rhythmical hammering in front of the brutal soundstage and the lost-in-somewhere vocal snippets. More like this please.

Phase Fatale - Redeemer

 Aγχος.

 A few years back, electronic music was looking straight into the future for inspiration. Now, the current producers are gazing back to the past, even though it's projected through the lens of a random tumblr account. In the case of Phase Fatale - the nom de plume of Hayden Payne - the blurred relics and artifacts are the industrial electronics and leather-clad EBM of the mid-to-late 80s.
 Redeemer sounds like a panic attack. The rigid programming makes you move involuntarily, but despite the awkwardness caused by your random tics, you think you look like a badass. You don't. But at least you're enjoying something that has the seal of approval from Corrupted Delights.

The New Blockaders - Etudes De Rien

 Για καθε μουσικοφιλο που (δεν) σεβεται τον εαυτο του και ασχολειται με εκατονταδες αχρηστες πληροφοριες που δεν προσφερουν τιποτα σε κανεναν, υπαρχουν ισαριθμα year zeros. 1913, 1952, 1956, 1966, 1977 με καποιες μικροπαραλλαγες που αν κατσουμε να ασχοληθουμε μαζι τους, θα αναπαραξουμε τις κοινοτυπιες του μουσικου τυπου, βαζοντας σε διαφορετικη σειρα τα ιδια albums, κατα προτιμηση στην deluxe επετειακη τους εκδοση.
 H δικη μου αχρειαστη συμβολη σε ολο αυτο το εθιμοτυπικο τοποθετειται στο 1982, λογω του Changez Les Blockeurs, ασχετα και αν ξερω πως το να προσγειωσω τους New Blockaders στο ιδιο timeline με οτιδηποτε αλλο, ειναι το πιο αντι-ΤΝΒ πραγμα που θα μπορουσα να κανω ποτε. Ας ειναι. Εχω κανει και χειροτερα.
 Τριανταπεντε χρονια μετα και συγκεκριμενα πριν εναμιση μηνα, το group κυκλοφορει το Etudes De Rien στην Coherent States. Ηδη εξασφαλιζει την κορυφη στη δεκαδα του Corrupted Delights και μια θεση διπλα στο ντεμπουτο και το Simphonie In X Major. Δυστυχως ειναι ακομα πολυ νωρις για να δω αν θα το μνημονευει καποιος στα επομενα τριανταπεντε χρονια και πως θα του συμπεριφερθει η ιστορια, παντως θελω να ξερετε πως βρισκεται απο τωρα στη δικια μου.

 It would be impossible to find anyone involved the Industrial spectrum that isn't influenced somehow by The New Blockaders. So, if every piece of the TNB history is more than essential - and yes, by "every" I mean every single one, even the "conceptual" (blank) sides like Simphonie In Ø  Minor or Epater Les Bourgois - then Etudes De Rien is mandatory. Two tracks of frenzied metal junk and electronic manipulation that put both imitators and naysayers to shame.

P.S. The presentation of this tape is immaculate, so kudos once more to the amazing Coherent States. Viva Negativa!

Broken English Club - The English Beach

 Στη νοτιοανατολικη Αγγλια, η παρακτια περιοχη Dungeness διαθετει την ομορφια ενος μεταποκαλυπτικου τοπιου. Λιγοστη και σπανια πανιδα, ακομα λιγοτεροι κατοικοι, εγκαταλελειμμενες καλυβες, παρατημενοι φαροι, σταθμοι ηλεκτροπαραγωγης και φυσικα ενα πυρηνικο εργοστασιο. Η μετεωρολογικη υπηρεσια του Ηνωμενου Βασιλειου ταξινομησε την περιοχη ως ερημο λογω της ξηροτητας της.
 Τα παραπανω χαρακτηριστικα σκιαγραφουν μια πολυ συγκεκριμενη ψυχογεωγραφια, παραλληλης με τη μυθιστορια του England's Hidden Reverse, ειδικα αν προσθεσουμε στην εξισωση και την αυτοεξορια του Derek Jarman στον αγυριστο του Dungeness λιγο πριν πεθανει.
 Οπως καταλαβατε το English Beach δεν εχει την παραμικρη σχεση με balearic καταστασεις. Ο Οliver Ho συνεθεσε το ηχητικο προφιλ αυτης της αφιλοξενης λωριδας γης με στεγνο ηχο, δυσοιωνο κοπανημα, hi-hats που ξυριζουν και φωνητικα που πλησιαζουν στο τσακ power electronics. Περιμενω φουλ καφριλα στον επομενο δισκο. #beachplease.

 Following Suburban Hunting, Oliver Ho explores with his second album the inhospitable landscape of Dungeness, an almost official desert in the southeastern end of the UK. The English Beach was recorded inside an old fog signal building, channeling the desolation straight to its 12 tracks. Half of them bang their way with brute monochromatic pulses, while the other half are entirely out of the techno framework and are deeply rooted within the post industrial lineage.

Vargdöd - Brutal Disciplin

 Σκατοψυχο techno για ανθρωπους που δεν γουσταρουν το techno. To ντουετο των Varg και Celldöd αφαιρει αυθαιρετα το τελικο E απο τον τιτλο του Brutal Disciplin για να μας δειξει πως εδω δεν θα βρουμε χαρες και γλεντια, αλλα το νυκτοβιο ξαδερφακι του Vatican Shadow που ενω δηλωνει πως μισει τους παντες επειδη ακουσε το People του Boyd Rice σε μια στιγμη αδυναμιας, σαρδελιαζεται σε clubs to dance the pain away. 

 Ο δισκος παντως δεν φασκει και αντιφασκει, παραμενει συνεπης και ολοσωστος στο κοπανημα του, εκτος απο το δευτερο track που μοιαζει καπως με Porter Ricks, αλλα μαλλον λεω μαλακιες, οποτε αν θελετε μια πιο ακριβη περιγραφη, να ρωτησετε το ξαδερφακι του Vatican Shadow. Εχει καλο γουστο.

 Bleak industrial techno with a sense of thick dread all over it. Brutal Disciplin begs to be played at maximum volume, preferably in a club, but I have the feeling that stuff like this, speaks mostly to people that don't like clubs. Just listen to it wherever you want, but the ideal would be in the frozen landscape of its cover.

Vit Fana - Irrgång

Although the cross-pollination between industrial and dance culture is not something new and led to some glorious records, I'm still wondering why are we suspicious about these juxtapositions and we tend to remember the bad examples over the good ones. For every third-rate Wax Trax remix, there still is a 20 Jazz Funk Greats and for every Groovy, Laidback And Nasty there is a Micro-Phonies to separate the shit from the gold. 

 Irrgång is not a danceable record by any means, but some elements are informed of the recent industrial/techno hybrid, even if the press release insists about 'early industrial noise music', so you will move your limbs around to it, either you like it or not. For the most part, Vit Fana's debut sounds like Alberich's beat-driven pieces without the punch, while the vocals fall directly into the whole Silent Servant/Broken English Club territory. Secret Thirteen mixes are made of this stuff. I still can't decide if I really like it or I'm just a victim of the hype.
