Με αφορμη τη χειροτερη μερα που μπορεις να πας σε δισκαδικο, οι Residents κυκλοφορησαν προχθες, στη Record Store Day, για πρωτη φορα επισημα το Baby Sex, δηλαδη τη δευτερη αποτυχημενη προσπαθεια τους στο να εξασφαλισουν συμβολαιο με τη Warner. Το ιστορικο βαρος του B.S. ειναι μαλιστα τοσο μεγαλο για τους fans, που το να το ακουσεις αποστασιοποιημενα ειναι το ιδιο αδιανοητο με το να μην στηθεις στην ουρα του δισκοπωλειου σαν μαλακας για να το αποκτησεις.
Αυτο που μου εκανε ομως μεγαλυτερη εντυπωση απο το οτι οντως υπαρχουν ανθρωποι που περιμενουν στην ουρα εξω απο δισκαδικα, ειναι το ιδιο το αλμπουμ. Εδω οι Residents ειναι μια καμμενη παρεα πιτσιρικαδων με αψογο μουσικο γουστο που βαραει ο,τι κατσαρολικο βρει μπροστα της, οχι πολυ μακρια απο αυτο που εκαναν οι Godz και οι Red Crayola λιγο καιρο πριν η αυτο που θα εκανε η Φινλανδικη free folk σκηνη πολλα χρονια αργοτερα. Απαραιτητο ντοκουμεντο.
Years before the eyeballs, the tuxedos and the ambitious concepts, The Residents were a squad of acid casualties, driven by their mutual love for the absurd, who wanted to invade the music business by all means necessary. Baby Sex (or just B.S. cause you know, 2019) was their second attempt for a contract with Warner Bros, which of course failed. The audience was not ready then and I doubt if it'll be ready anytime soon for this freak out of a record. Just imagine a highly potent psychedelic brew of Beefheart and ESP-Disk freeform skronk with communal banging, stream of consciousness lyrics, tape speed experiments, flashes of hillbilly music through their distorted lens and the trademark Residential absurdism that's ever present, even before their official birth.
