Rotat - Grease District

 Ακομα ενα φινλανδικο μονομελες project που ακολουθει την αλανθαστη τακτικη του "βαραω μεχρι να με ακουσετε, αλλα αν δεν τα καταφερω, θα το κανω ακομα πιο δυνατα". Το harsh noise του Rotat εχει μια σχετικη hi-fi προσεγγιση στον ηχο, χωρις να θυσιαζει την αμεσοτητα του για χαρη της πιστοτητας, δηλαδη εξακολουθει να δαγκωνει κοκκαλα, αλλα ταυτοχρονα μπορεις να ξεχωρισεις ποιο απ' ολα.

 Απο τα εξι κομματια του Grease District, θα ξεχωρισω το Plastic Pubic Hairs, μια ηρωικα τιτλοφορημενη εντεκαλεπτη συνθεση που συμπυκνωνει αψογα την περιπτωση του ανωνυμου κυριου και το Last Breath, μια σπαστικα ασθμαινουσα καφριλα με κρατσανιστα επιπεδα και ακραιο panning. Live your myth in grease. 

 After a couple of tape releases on Obsessive Fundamental Realism and Hiisi Productions, this anonymous Finnish project makes its official debut on Freak Animal. Grease District has everything you need from your harsh noise, be it the crunchy low end, the balls out attack or the angular turns. The few industrial touches are more than welcome, like the tight last track with its rhythmical hammering in front of the brutal soundstage and the lost-in-somewhere vocal snippets. More like this please.

 Ξερω. Τετοιου ειδους συνεργασιες ειναι επιφοβες, με μεγαλυτερο θυμα το ιερο τερας της εξισωσης που διακυβευει την υποληψη του. To νεοτερο μελος συνηθως τη γλυτωνει με μια επιπληξη που θα ξεχαστει στο Wire του επομενου μηνα, καθως δηλωνει γοητευμενο απο τις ανορθοδοξες μεθοδους του ειδωλου του, ενω εχει ηδη κερδισει credit καλλιτεχνικης ωριμοτητας, ασχετα με το οποιο αποτελεσμα.
 Ο τιτλος του The Weight Of History αντανακλα τις παραπανω φοβιες των συμμετεχοντων. Εχοντας προηγηθει ενα Lulu (που κατα ενα διεστραμμενο λογο μ'αρεσε) και ενα Soused (που θελω να ξεχασω), οι Eno/Shields επαιξαν εκ του ασφαλους, χρησιμοποιωντας τη Record Store Day 2018 για διχτυ ασφαλειας. Ακομα και τα δυο κομματια του δωδεκαιντσου πατανε προσεκτικα πανω στα πλακακια που τοποθετησαν οι ιδιοι, για να αποφυγουν το κραξιμο. Ισως τελικα να προτιμουσα ενα Lulu. Τουλαχιστον δεν θα περνουσε απαρατηρητο.

 I expected way more from this collaboration, but that doesn't mean that The Weight Of History is bad in any way. It's just too safe for its own good. Still, an Εno/Shields 12" is better that no Eno/Shields 12", so here it is.

Maya Deren - Divine Horsemen - The Voodoo Gods Of Haiti

 H Maya Deren θα επισκεφτει την Αιτη το 1946, χρηματοδοτουμενη απο την επιτροπη υποτροφιων του μουσειου Guggenheim, με σκοπο το γυρισμα ενος ντοκυμαντερ για τους λατρευτικους χορους της τοπικης θρησκειας, του Vodou (η αλλιως Vodun και Vodoun αλλα γνωστοτερο σε εμας με την παραφραση του, Voodoo). Δυστυχως το project θα μπει στον παγο επειδη η χρηματοδοτηση κοβεται απο τη στιγμη που η Deren ασπαστει το μαγικο-θρησκευτικο δογμα και ετσι, τα μιλια φιλμ που ειχε κινηματογραφησει, θα παραμεινουν ανεκμεταλλευτα.
 Τελικα το ντοκυμαντερ Divine Horsemen - The Voodoo Gods Of Haiti θα ολοκληρωθει το 1981, 20 χρονια μετα το θανατο της Deren, απο τον πρωην συζυγο της, Teiji Ito. Αυτο εδω ειναι το ηχητικο του ντοκουμεντο.

 Ultra lo-fi field recordings of Voodoo practices from the polymath Maya Deren. If you ever wondered how the fuck Brian Eno went polyrhythmic on our asses with Fear Of Music/Remain In Light, well, this is your chance. Of course, you can't have an all persons fictitious disclaimer. William Bennett based his whole Cut Hands shtick on this record.

Jeph Jerman - The Bray Harp

 Mε απροσπελαστη τριανταχρονη δισκογραφια και με συνεχη παρουσια στο αμερικανικο υπο-underground, ειναι αξιο αποριας πως - η ακομα καλυτερα - γιατι ο Jeph Jerman (και κατα συνεπεια το προσωπικο του project, Hands To) δεν εχει την εκθεση και την αποδοχη που του αξιζει. Σταδιακα, η δουλεια του αποτραβηχτηκε απο τις λουπες και τις ηλεκτρονικες παρεμβασεις, για να αφιερωθει στα μικροφωνα επαφης και τα field recordings σε αλμπουμς που εφταναν στα ορια της ακουστικης οικολογιας. Φετος ομως στο The Bray Harp, νοσταλγει τις βιομηχανικες του ριζες, με την καυλα ενος πιτσιρικα που πρωτοπιανει λαμαρινα και τη ψυχραιμια ενος βετερανου που κραταει ισες αποστασεις απο το αντικειμενο του ποθου του.
 Σαφεστατα το πρωτο που ερχεται στο μυαλο ειναι οι New Blockaders, ισως και οι Haters του In The Shade Of Fire, ειδικα στο δευτερο μισο της πρωτης ατιτλης πλευρας. Στη δευτερη πλευρα, ο Jerman συναρμολογει εναν υποδειγματικο junk metal χαμο που τον διαδεχεται μια ξεκουρδιστη gamelan ορχηστρα για το ολοσωστο κλεισιμο μιας ολοσωστης δισκαρας.

 A heavy junk metal record with intricate arrangements and a plethora of textures. The Bray Harp is spinning constantly at Corrupted Delight's HQ, so it's already a strong contender for you know what.

Skin Crime - Ghosts I Have Been

  Νεο υλικο απο τους Skin Crime, που δοκιμαζουν την τυχη τους σε αυτο που ολοι αποκαλουμε 'ηλεκτρακουστικο αυτοσχεδιασμο' αλλα δεν ξερουμε τι ακριβως σημαινει. Κατι παρεμφερες ειχε συμβει και στο ομωνυμο album τους, ομως εκει υπηρχε μια κλιμακουμενη νοσηροτητα που στο Ghosts I Have Been εχει αντικατασταθει απο μια αισθηση παραδοσης στην διαδικασια και οχι στο αποτελεσμα. Οπως και να 'χει, θα παιξει πολυ μεχρι να βγαλω ακρη.

 Patrick O'Neil and co. brought Skin Crime back to life after a long hiatus which involved two side projects, a live appearance at the Hospital Productions' 20 years festival and a huge box set that I'll buy as soon as I get my hands on a million euros. Their latest incarnation is a different kind of animal compared to their harsh noise CV, so no more Whorebutcher and Genital Modification for you guys. This time the mood is way more eerie, just like a Small Cruel Party session that went awry, with a couple hundred amplified microsounds requesting immediate headphone listening. Dig in.

 Ενος λεπτου σιγη στη μνημη των δισκων που δεν ακουστηκαν εγκαιρα για να σταθουν διπλα στα καλυτερα της χρονιας. 

 Keith Brewer shows us once more how shit's gets done. As always, Mania's approach is way more freeform than your average power electronics fare, yet it possesses a unique sense of composition behind all the layering of junk metal and sudden burst of anger to be shelved next to the harsh noise crowd. When the chaos is cleared, you can hear the negative space around the edges that builds tension, without a release, even when these Little Pieces Of Violence escalate to their full form. Excellent stuff.

V/A - La Contra Ola - Synth Wave And Post Punk From Spain 1980-86

 Οσο συνεχιζονται οι εκσκαφες στα obscure 80s, τοσο η φαση θα μου θυμιζει το Τρελο Γουικεντ Στου Μπερνι. Οι εταιριες περιφερονται κουβαλωντας ενα πτωμα στους ωμους, το οποιο θα επρεπε να εχει θαφτει εδω και 30 χρονια. Ωστοσο δεν παραπονιεμαι, εχω ανακαλυψει τα οσα χαρη στις συλλογες τυπου Now That's What I Call Minimal Synth Volume Ταδε. 

 Στην περιπτωση της La Contra Ola, ξεθαβεται το DIY ρευμα της Ιβηρικης Χερσονησου, μιας σκηνης που αγνοουσα, περαν των τεραστιων Esplendor Geométrico, των Diseño Corbusier και των σαφως πιο pop, Oviformia SCI. Αναμεσα τους πεταγονται οι EBM αποπειρες των La Fura Dels Baus, το dark wave των Derribos Arias και η Pop Group-meets-Blurt-meets-ο,τι να ναι παρανοια των La T. Ομως ο πρωταγωνιστικος ρολος της συλλογης ανηκει στο γοητευτικοτατο ερασιτεχνισμο, φουλ στις σπαστες προφορες και στο ατσαλο sampling.

 An eye-opening compilation that showcases the spanish post punk scene, back at a time when the analog keyboards took over. Most of the acts deviate from their respective niche sound and they manage to strain an excess of ideas from their self-confined means. Somehow, the hummability of the tunes remain intact, even when the bands are frenetic or just plain weird. Of course the whole thing sounds dated, but that's exactly its charm.

Jean-Marc Foussat / Georgios Karamanolakis - Substunce Sans Scrupule

 Ηλεκτρακουστικος διαλογος μεταξυ του Γαλλο-Αλγερινου Jean-Marc Foussat και του Γεωργιου Καραμανωλακη. Ο καθε καλλιτεχνης επεμβαινει στα ηχογραφηματα του αλλου, ειτε με διακριτικες παρεμβασεις απο field recordings και lower case αυτοσχεδιασμο, ειτε αντιστρεφει εντελως το τοπιο με σχεδον harsh θρασος. Αυτο ομως που εντυπωσιαζει αυτοματα στο Substunce Sans Scrupule ειναι η αισθηση πως οι εμπλεκομενοι δεν φοβουνται να λερωσουν τα χερια τους, πραγμα αδιανοητο για τις συγχρονες αποστειρωμενες musique concrete παραγωγες. Oι fans της Creel Pone, της Recollection GRM και των C.C.C.C. θα λατρεψουν.

 The esoteric world of electroacoustic composition is graced with this black slab of vinyl. Substunce Sans Scrupule may be a cerebral work, but its million twists and turns have a full hand-on approach, thanks to the extensive use of EMS Synthi. The real magic happens when the disjointed fragments gel together into a cohesive vortex that brings to mind the Forbidden Planet soundtrack, remixed by Hiroshi Hasegawa inside the legendary GRM Studio. This is a unique record which guarantees constant revisiting.

Alvin Lucier - Criss Cross / Hanover

 O oγδονταεφταχρονος Alvin Lucier αναθετει στον Stephen O' Malley και τον Oren Ambarchi την εκτελεση δυο προσφατων συνθεσεων του για ηλεκτρικη κιθαρα και ταλαντωτη. Κι οσο και αν αυτο ακουγεται θεμελιωδες η ακομα και αχρειαστο για ενα συνθετη που ασχολειται με τις ιδιοτητες του ηχου για παραπανω απο πενηντα χρονια, αξιζει αφενος να αναλογιστουμε την τοτεμικη θεση της ηλεκτρικης κιθαρας στη λαικη μουσικη και αφετερου τη σταδιακη εργαλειοποιηση της στα χερια του Chuck Berry, του Keith Rowe, του Lou Reed, του Robert Fripp, του Kevin Shields και του Dylan Carlson. Επομενως το Criss Cross / Hanover θα συνεβαινε αργα η γρηγορα. 
 Οπως φανταζεστε οι συνθεσεις ξεγυμνωνουν το εξαχορδο απο τα γνωστα χαρακτηριστικα του. Το πρωτο κομματι αποτελειται απο δυο κυκλικους, μουντους τονους που συναντιουνται περιοδικα, καπως σαν την doom εκτελεση του Adnos I-III της Eliane Radigue. Στο δευτερο ακουμε προσεκτικα, ξυπναμε απο το ληθαργο, σβηνουμε το φακελο drone απο τον υπολογιστη και στη συνεχεια σκοτωνουμε στο discogs τα albums του Eleh.

 Alvin Lucier composed Criss Cross and Hanover in 2013 and 2015 respectively, but these works could have been born at any time of the octogenarian's career. In the first composition, we watch two oscillating tones drawing patterns at glacial pace, as Stephen O' Malley and Oren Ambarchi create their own Soliloquy For Lilith. On Hanover, the duo is joined by a "big band" of some sorts, with saxes, violin, piano et al, but the results are equally minimal and delicate, offering tiny details akin to dust particles swirling in a beam of light. Heady stuff, with its balls placed right where they should be.

V/A - Epicurian Escapism I

 "An extreme example of a saint who was truly zealous in the mortification of her flesh and senses is Saint Mary Magdalene de'Pazzi. 

 Born in Florence in 1566 of an aristocratic family, Caterina de'Pazzi was a religiously precocious child. At age 10 she made a vow of perpetual chastity, secretly whipped herself and wore a crown of thorns. Although her parents were unhappy with her behavior, they allowed her to enter a Carmelite convent where she chose the name of the holy harlot, Mary Magdalene. Due to the austerity of her life she soon gained a reputation for outstanding virtue. Frequently she experienced periods of 'rapture' during which she made predictions about the future. She reportedly was able to cure diseases; one procedure she followed was to lick the skin lesions of afflicted nuns, including one who was thought to have leprosy, and to suck the maggots out of skin ulcers. 

 At age 20 she declared that God had ordered her to eat only bread and water. Because of swelling in her feet she often crawled around the convent on all fours and kissed the feet of the bewildered nuns. Claiming that she was being hounded by devils, she frenetically and publicly whipped her body to chase them away and threw herself naked on thorn bushes until she was covered with blood. She burned her skin with hot wax and cajoled the novices in the convent to whip her and to step on her mouth. 

 At about age 37, emaciated and racked with coughing and pain, she took to her bed and did not leave it until she died four years later in 1607. Her painful gums were so badly infected that she could not bear to close her jaw, until her teeth fell out, one by one. Her body was covered with putrefying bed sores, but when the sisters offered to move her she warned them off for fear that by touching her body they might experience sexual desires. 

 Because of her virtuous life, her miraculous healing, her clairvoyance and the presence of a perfumed fragrance that emanated from her corpse, she was beatified by Pope Urban VIII in 1626. She was admitted to the company of the saints by Pope Clement IX, who issued a decree of canonization in 1668. A large statue of her holding a flagellant whip can be seen in her church in Florence where many people from around the world still come to pay her tribute."

Epicurian Escapism I CD (The Epicurian / Silken Tofu - 2014)

V/A - Epicurian Escapism II

 Η συλλογη Epicurian Escapism κυκλοφορησε το 2013 με αφορμη το ομωνυμο φεστιβαλ, παρουσιαζοντας την πολυπλευρη προσεγγιση των συμμετεχοντων πανω στο συγχρονο (post) industrial. Απο τοτε οι εξελιξεις ηταν ραγδαιες και τα ονοματα ανεβοκατεβηκαν την κλιμακα δημοφιλιας, με κορυφαιο παραδειγμα τον Trepaneringsritualen που αυτη τη στιγμη που μιλαμε απολαμβανει τα σαλονια των μεγαλων εταιριων.
 Oι υπολοιποι καλλιτεχνες παρουσιαζουν αυτο που ξερουν καλυτερα, με τους Ke/Hil σε ψυχροπολεμικο mode, τον Αnemone Tube σε δυο ελλειπτικα drones χωρις τρελες εκπληξεις, Post Scriptvm σε απονερα του Grey Eminence και Dieter Müh να μεγαλουργουν στο εικοσαλεπτο Bethlehem.

 The exemplary curated second volume of the infamous Epicurian Escapism compilations showcases a diverse roster of artists that serves both as a treat for the initiated and an introduction for the newcomer. If I had to pick only one track, I would get Dieter Müh's Bethlehem, which is an glorious mindfuckery in the vein of Maeror Tri and Unveiled. Luckily I don't have to.

H.Ö.H - Palava Kuljettaja

 Μυστηριωδες φινλανδικο project με αρκετες κασετες στο βιογραφικο του, τοποθετημενες μεθοδικα μεσα στην τρεχουσα δεκαετια, ετσι ωστε να διατηρηθει η ανωνυμια του. Το Palava Kuljettaja εκμεταλλευεται τη συμβιβασμενη πιστοτητα της μαγνητικης ταινιας σε σημειο που ο ακροατης δυσκολευεται να ξεχωρισει το εργο απο το μεσο, με πρωτη και κυρια αναφορα το Oxide του Chop Shop, χωρις τις μηχανορραφιες. Ενω τα εξι ατιτλα κομματια του album αποτελουνται μονο απο υποτυπωδεις λουπες και βραχεα κυματα, στο συνολο της δουλειας ενυπαρχει μια Filth & Violence συνιστωσα που αδυνατω να καταδειξω. Ισως να φταιει η τιποτενια xerox εξωφυλλαρα, μπορει και η ιδια η καταγωγη του project, ακομα και η προσφατη συλλογη στη Freak Animal. Παντως θα συνεχισω την ερευνα, με την κασετα στο auto reverse.

 Raw tape music made in the most unsophisticated way. H.Ö.H bypasses any "artistic" associations that usually plague these jams with boring concepts and goes straight into the texture of the ferric tape. Most of the time Palava Kuljettaja is drenched in shortwave signals, but the rudimentary loops and their abrupt stops are the stars of the show. In a different setting, I would be saying that the whole thing sounds like a Conet Project remix by William Burroughs, but Finns do it better anyway.

Alfarmania & Proiekt Hat - Flugornas Herrar

 H προσωνυμια "Αρχοντας των Μυγων" (Flugornas Herrar) που συνοδευει τον Βελζεβουλ μεσα στους αιωνες, ετυμολογειται στη χριστιανικη περιφρονητικη παραφραση του ονοματος του μεσανατολικου θεου Βααλ. Οι Φιλισταιοι τον λατρευαν με το ονομα Βααλ-Ζεμπουμπ που σημαινε "Αρχοντας του Υψηλου Οικου". Mε το περασμα του χρονου, δαιμονοποιηθηκε στα γριμορια ως η προσωποποιηση του μιασματος, ειτε με τερατωδεις απεικονισεις και υψηλη θεση στην ιεραρχια της κολασεως, ειτε ως συνωνυμος του Σατανα.

 The follow-up of Mardrömd Dödsström is a bottomless pit of sonic gunk, a sticky unidentified substance poured inside your tape deck. Flugornas Herrar means 'The Lord Of The Flies' in swedish, so you better prepare yourself for some serious occult-ridden death industrial of the highest order. Each track bleeds into the next and you can actually hear their undercurrents beneath the murk, if you're not locked into a random tribal rhythm or a dying synth pattern that managed to escape from the thick textures. These are the outer reaches of psychedelic music, albeit an inwards-looking one.

 Αν το 2016 ηταν το Funhouse, νομοτελειακα το 2017 ηταν το Raw Power, o διδυμος κοινωνιοπαθης αδερφος, η υπερχειλιση του βοθρου, η καταργηση των οποιων κανονων, η τελευταια σταγονα σκατοσυνης. Αυτος ο υπερθετικος εφαρμοστηκε και στη μουσικη, με δεκαδες δισκαρες να σκανε απο παντου, εναντια στα γραφικα ζωα που επιμενουν στο αντιθετο. Επομενως σφιγγουμε τα δοντια για το επικειμενο Metallic KO καθως χειροκροτουμε τα παρακατω επιτευγματα.

Οποτε η σημερινη μερα θα ξεκινησει επισημα τη στιγμη που θα πατησω play στο Survival Of The Laziest για να επιβεβαιωσω ακομα μια φορα το παραπανω συμπερασμα.

K2 - The Rust

 Bαριεμαι απιστευτα να κατσω να γραψω το παραμικρο, οποτε θα υποκριθειτε πως διαβασατε κατι παρα πολυ πρωτοτυπο και θα ειμαστε ολοι ευχαριστημενοι.  

When it comes to prolific artists, the question of quality over quantity inevitably arises, especially if the nature of the music is improvised. In K2's case, you can't tell if his constant output is following a pattern or he just goes berserk over his gear, but if you are anally retentive you can hear the edits and the cuts, pretty much like a Holger Czukay production on bath salts. So, is this edited material considered an improv or just an open-ended composition? And last but not least, why the hell did I choose The Rust instead of Metal Dysplasia or Molekular Terrorism?
 The answer is simplistic and bypasses any logical argument, so spare your ifs and buts. I chose The Rust because it slays. You can't ignore it  by any means, due to its shrill mastering that goes straight into the forbidden Pulse Demon territory, instigating one of the most vivid examples of antagonism between the artist and his audience. It's safe to say that you'll spend hours counting the numerous edits, as well as trying to figure out how the fuck is this record out of the canonical status that it rightly deserves.

 Με το που ανοιξεις το λιτο αλλα κομψοτατο digifile του Gothenburg, σε καλωσοριζει ενα τεραστιο PURE HARSH NOISE για να ξεκαθαριστουν οι οποιες αμφιβολιες για το περιεχομενο του. Οι Dan Johansson (Sewer Election) και Matthias Andersson (Arv & Miljö) βγαζουν απωθημενα που δεν επιτρεπονται στα προσωπικα τους project.
 Tο ντουετο προσκυναει τα εικονισματα των ηρωων του, οποτε το ξυλο πεφτει μεταξυ Mother Savage Noise Productions, Incapacitants και Lasse Marhaug / Jazkamer / Testicle Hazard, οποτε μη διανοηθειτε να το χασετε αν θελετε να ειστε ευπροσδεκτοι εδω μεσα.

 Heinz Hopf blast their way with a full frontal assault of pedal abuse with a heavy physical presence. When they don't go for an impeccable Mother Savage Noise Productions sound, they pay respects to the almighty Incapacitants summoning a huge wall of squelching feedback or they confront Lasse Marhaug in his own game with a beefed-up barrage of sound. It's been a while since I put myself in front of a harsh noise record and this one removed the gunk out of my system like a palate cleanser. So good.

Oneohtrix Point Never - Good Time O.S.T.

 To τυρι που σκεπασε με την παροδο του χρονου ιδιωματα οπως το new age, το prog, την pop των 80ς, την italo disco και τα cult soundtracks εχει αρχισει να λιωνει. Απο τη μια η κουλτουρα των επανεκδοσεων που ξεθαψε ο,τι εχει πανω απο 100 views στο youtube και απο την αλλη η μετα-ειρωνικη προσεγγιση της νεοτερης γενιας καλλιτεχνων σε οτιδηποτε "αντικουλ", αποδομησε την εννοια του guilty pleasure. Ποτε δεν πιστευα σ' αυτες τις μαλακιες, εχουμε ηδη πολλους λογους να αυτομαστιγωνομαστε, ας μην το κανουμε και για τη μουσικη.
 Γι' αυτο αλλωστε συμπαθησα τον Daniel Lopatin απ' την αρχη της καριερας του. Η αγαπη του για τον (εξωραισμενο μεσω internet) πολιτισμικο πατο ειναι ειλικρινης, εκτος και αν δεν καταφερα να διακρινω το μειδιαμα του πισω απο το Rifts και το Returnal. Ομως, ακομα και να υπηρχε, στο Good Time εχει εξαφανιστει.
 Το album προφανως χρησιμοποιει κωδικες των soundtracks των 80ς και των 90ς, που πλεον θεωρουνται τα αποσυναγωγα παιδια της κινηματογραφικης μουσικης. Αλλα ακομα και τα ενοχλητικα samples απο τους διαλογους της ταινιας, καταλαμβανουν στρατηγικο χωρο στα ανεβοκατεβασματα της αφηγησης του Oneohtrix Point Never, που κινειται μεταξυ Aνω Midnight Express και Κατω Escape From New York. Παρ' ολα αυτα, συνεργαστηκε με τον Iggy Pop στο πανεμορφο The Pure And The Damned, κερδισε το βραβειο μουσικης επενδυσης στις Καννες και εβαλε τη μουρη του Robert Pattinson σ' αυτο το blog. Τι αλλο πια.

I've always liked Daniel Lopatin's music since Day 1 and I followed him through his peaks and valleys, be it the watery synths of his earlier experiments, the digital sterilization of Returnal, even the preset mash-up of R Plus Seven, which was annoying in a charming way, but I didn't expect something like Good Time.

 As far as I know, the movie is an indie crime drama, which explains why the director picked Lopatin for the scoring. Oneohtrix Point Never's music was always full of cinematic snippets, slowed down beyond recognition. Now, in his most ambitious record so far, everything is where is supposed to be in a hi-fi manner, without losing face to his oldtime fans. He removed his usual tongue-in-cheek moments - his quirks if you will - by letting moody sequencers take the lead. He even transformed himself, from a casual synth dude into a winner of the Cannes soundtrack awards.

 Aγχος.

 A few years back, electronic music was looking straight into the future for inspiration. Now, the current producers are gazing back to the past, even though it's projected through the lens of a random tumblr account. In the case of Phase Fatale - the nom de plume of Hayden Payne - the blurred relics and artifacts are the industrial electronics and leather-clad EBM of the mid-to-late 80s.
 Redeemer sounds like a panic attack. The rigid programming makes you move involuntarily, but despite the awkwardness caused by your random tics, you think you look like a badass. You don't. But at least you're enjoying something that has the seal of approval from Corrupted Delights.

Pan Daijing - Lack

 Τωρα.

 Lack is moving constantly. From the visceral to the reflective, from a faint tape hiss to a blinding digital sheen, from live performances to impromptu studio actions, from signal to noise, usually in the blink of an eye, working outside the listener's comfort zone and expectations. The same cut-and-paste method has been used with amazing results by Faust for the prodigious Rien, but here we have a debut. An amazing one actually.
 Pan Daijing excels at keeping the intensity at a peak, right just before it explodes to a formless mess, either with operatic vocalizing, dissonant loops or clinical pauses that makes you feel awkward, like you've been eavesdropping something that you shouldn't. But you do. And it's so fucking great.

The Vomit Arsonist - Meditations On Giving Up Completely

 Α ναι. Το υποχρεωτικο death industrial post. Αυτο που πρεπει να αναρτηθει για να δειτε πως εδω, το κραταμε ακομα αληθινο. Στην πραγματικοτητα, το τελευταιο διαστημα δεν ακουω καθολου μουσικη αλλα αν το κανω, θα διαλεξω κατι αχρωμο και αοσμο, κατα προτιμηση αδιαφορο, αυτα που δεν απαιτουν το παραμικρο απο μενα. Μονο το πατημα ενος κουμπιου.
 Οσο και αν η αυτοπροβολη της οποιας ψυχικης διαταραχης δηλωνει καποιο σθενος, αλλο τοσο μπορει αυτοστιγμει να καταληξει depression meme, με τα απαραιτητα "omg relatable, so me" σχολια, οποτε δυσκολευτηκα να ακουσω το Meditations On Giving Up Completely με τον τροπο που ζηταει ο Vomit Arsonist απο το ακροατηριο του, στο οποιο μαλλον δεν ανηκω πια. Κριμα, γιατι το ιδιο το album ειναι καλο και θα το συστησω σε ολους οσους ακουνε Climax Denial και BDN ενω σκρολαρουν στο instagram. Ομως εγω, το μονο που ηθελα ηταν να πατησω ενα κουμπι.

Power electronics - and its offshoot death industrial - always struck me as the ultimate expression of vulnerability. The sound of breaking apart condensed into a huge middle finger, directed towards everything with a heartbeat and last but not least, itself. If you haven't got the time to check all the classics, you can watch this and try hard not to identify yourself with Norton. So much for power then.
 Meditations On Giving Up Completely is one of the really few albums out there that admits this inability to cope with everyday life, without sounding trite inside the wilderness of modern Death Industrial sameness. Because the inspiration behind the album is grey and dull, Andrew Grant narrows down his sound to its bare bones, relying more on restraint, except the sculpted ambience around the tracks. The pacing of the record shares the same ground with BDN's Kamikaze Kabaret, it's a typical grower, so give it some time and let it drown you to its misery.

 Για καθε μουσικοφιλο που (δεν) σεβεται τον εαυτο του και ασχολειται με εκατονταδες αχρηστες πληροφοριες που δεν προσφερουν τιποτα σε κανεναν, υπαρχουν ισαριθμα year zeros. 1913, 1952, 1956, 1966, 1977 με καποιες μικροπαραλλαγες που αν κατσουμε να ασχοληθουμε μαζι τους, θα αναπαραξουμε τις κοινοτυπιες του μουσικου τυπου, βαζοντας σε διαφορετικη σειρα τα ιδια albums, κατα προτιμηση στην deluxe επετειακη τους εκδοση.
 H δικη μου αχρειαστη συμβολη σε ολο αυτο το εθιμοτυπικο τοποθετειται στο 1982, λογω του Changez Les Blockeurs, ασχετα και αν ξερω πως το να προσγειωσω τους New Blockaders στο ιδιο timeline με οτιδηποτε αλλο, ειναι το πιο αντι-ΤΝΒ πραγμα που θα μπορουσα να κανω ποτε. Ας ειναι. Εχω κανει και χειροτερα.
 Τριανταπεντε χρονια μετα και συγκεκριμενα πριν εναμιση μηνα, το group κυκλοφορει το Etudes De Rien στην Coherent States. Ηδη εξασφαλιζει την κορυφη στη δεκαδα του Corrupted Delights και μια θεση διπλα στο ντεμπουτο και το Simphonie In X Major. Δυστυχως ειναι ακομα πολυ νωρις για να δω αν θα το μνημονευει καποιος στα επομενα τριανταπεντε χρονια και πως θα του συμπεριφερθει η ιστορια, παντως θελω να ξερετε πως βρισκεται απο τωρα στη δικια μου.

 It would be impossible to find anyone involved the Industrial spectrum that isn't influenced somehow by The New Blockaders. So, if every piece of the TNB history is more than essential - and yes, by "every" I mean every single one, even the "conceptual" (blank) sides like Simphonie In Ø  Minor or Epater Les Bourgois - then Etudes De Rien is mandatory. Two tracks of frenzied metal junk and electronic manipulation that put both imitators and naysayers to shame.

P.S. The presentation of this tape is immaculate, so kudos once more to the amazing Coherent States. Viva Negativa!
